Canossaville was first established as an orphanage in 1941 with the aim of providing care and attention to male and female orphans. In later years, it became a home mainly for girls from single-parent families and troubled homes.
In 1983, the Student Care Centre (previously known as Before and After School Care Service) was introduced to cater to the rising numbers of school-going children being left unsupervised at home during the day.
The Canossian Sisters' approach is to respond promptly and flexibly to changing
needs, be proactive through early intervention and administer the Home on the principles of sound management and networking with other community agencies.
To provide shelter and integrated services to young children and adolescents who are at risk or who lack adequate family support for their well-being and development.
To provide Student Care to ensure a supportive learning environment outside school.
To reach out and support all children under our care and their families through individual and group counselling, skills development, learning support and other programmes.
Residential Services
The home has the capacity to accommodate up to 25 residents. The duration of the stay for residents varies from case to case. It may range from 6 months to several years. The Director of the Home and her staff holds case reviews fortnightly.
Half yearly reviews are held with parents, guardians or referring parties to assess the progress of each resident. Residents are taught basic self-help and housekeeping skills to prepare them for re-integration with the family or for independent living. They are also supported in their academic studies and personal development.
Student Care Centre
Most of the children come from single-parent low-income families. Residents from the Children's Home and a few children from double-parent families who are pupils of Canossian schools within the Eduplex make up the remaining student population making use of the service.
The service is open to both boys and girls. Children using the service are mainly females and come from Canossian schools as well as neighbourhood government schools. Educational levels range from Kindergarten through Secondary Four. The majority of the children are between the ages of 6 to 12 years.
CCH was registered as a Charity under the Charities Act on 29 June 1987 (Registration No. 0462).
With effect from 1 January 1997, it became a voluntary welfare organisation authorised to receive tax-exempt donations with IPC Status from 1 July 2007- 30 Sept 2011 (IPC000372).
