Archdiocesan Commission for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant
People (ACMI)
ACMI promotes and coordinate the activities of migrants and itinerant groups and values formation programmes. ACMI hopes to have the opportunities to further enhance the migrants' talents and skills and to foster local and regional networks with concerned groups on migration issues.
ACMI Soup Kitchen
More than 30 volunteers gather three times a week to cook meals to be delivered to construction workers. ACMI Soup Kitchen, which operates at 11 Hillside Drive, serves 1200 - 1500 meals a month or a total of 15,000 meal packets a year.
Besides cooking for foreign workers, our volunteers gather in fellowship for community building activities - pay visits to sick and elderly, fundraising, birthday celebration, and social outing.
ACMI Training Centre
For at least a decade, there have been numerous skills centres in Singapore that are providing domestic workers places to go for community fellowship and livelihood skills training at token fees. ACMI supports in terms of resources to these numerous centres and also runs its own centre at the former St Joseph's Convent at 11 Hillside Drive (off Upper Serangoon Rd). Every year, ACMI Training Centre provides livelihood skills training to more than 200 graduating students from Indonesia, Philippines, India, and Sri Lanka annually.
ACMI Befrienders
ACMI Befrienders also visit migrants in hospitals and also those who are facing problems but unable to go out.
Casework
ACMI advocates fair treatment of foreign workers and foster a harmonious relationship between employer and worker. We also help foreign spouses, students and itinerants.
Outreach “Dignity in the Home” is a programme to build awareness and encourage Catholic employers to treat their maids with respect.
