Advent 2007 Charity Projects at Parishes
IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY - ARCHDIOCESAN COMMISSION FOR THE PASTORAL
CARE OF MIGRANTS AND ITINERANT PEOPLE (ACMI)
Our theme “Migrants- But Not Alone” seeks
to reach out to the migrants. Church of IHM will be supporting the
work of Archdiocesan Commission for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and
Itinerant People (ACMI) with our time and efforts.
In the weekend of
1 & 2 December, ACMI will hold exhibits for
parishioners before and after each mass. This will allow parishioners
to learn about ACMI and find out about the many programmes of ACMI.
During these sessions, volunteers can sign up to help with these
programmes which include casework and advocacy, befriending, hospital
visits, soup kitchens and lifeskills training.
In addition, donation
envelopes for ACMI will be given to parishioners after communion. These
can be collected in the following week or mailed back to the parish.

About ACMI
Established in June 1998 , ACMI comprises local and foreign volunteers who journey
with migrants from the time they arrive in Singapore. Efforts are made to educate
everyone to be aware and sensitive to the welfare of migrant workers. ACMI aims
to assist any migrant worker and/or their employer, irrespective of religious
and ethnic background.
Key Programmes and Services
| Casework and Advocacy |
| ACMI provides migrant workers with an
avenue to resolve problems and conflicts with their employers.
It will help migrant workers with mediation efforts and may
collaborate with the Catholic Lawyers Guild of Singapore to
ensure that they receive proper legal services. |

building activities and make hospitals visits, organise social
outings for migrant workers. |

It serves about 1,200 to 1,500 meals a month to newly arrived
migrants as they settle into living in a new country. |
