A Time For Repentance & Reflection
Lent is a time of repentance and reflection in preparation for Easter, when Jesus offers us salvation through his death and resurrection.

It is a time for us to reflect on our lives, where we stand in
terms of our faith and what we are doing in the service of
others.

To assist us in our reflection, the Church calls on us to fast
and give alms. The prophet Isaiah reminds us of the type of
fast that pleases the Lord:

" …releasing those bound unjustly…setting free the oppressed…sharing your bread with the hungry, sheltering
the oppressed and the homeless; clothing the naked…"

(Isaiah 58:6-7)

As we begin our Lenten journey this year, let us pause for a moment to think of those in society who are going through
difficult times, some of whom are being looked after by our Catholic charities:

The sick who cannot afford proper medical care
The aged & the dying who have no one to take care of them
Those who find it difficult to make ends meet month after month
Children and women who have been abused or neglected
Migrant workers who have been exploited, and
Those who are homeless and need refuge

This Lent, take time to pray, fast and give alms to show your solidarity with the poor and deprived. For reflection, use the
Lenten booklet prepared for you by the Singapore Pastoral
Institute (SPI) with your family, neighborhood group or Small Christian Community. Think of how you can serve the less fortunate in our midst, and donate generously to the Catholic
Social and Community Council (CSCC) which, together with
the Catholic Welfare Services (CWS), have been tasked by
me to conduct the Charities Week campaign this year to raise funds for our Catholic charities.

May God Bless you for your kind generosity & prayers,

Yours in Christ,
Archbishop Nicholas Chia
